When i first heard of Macklemore, i was really new to the scene, and just finishing up my debut album. I finally copped “Language of My World” about a year after it released and it was one of the best ten bucks i ever spent. Since 2007, we’ve been good homies and im blessed to know such a real, talented and amazing individual. Its been a minute since we’ve heard any new official music from Mack, so…Christmas came a little early this year…
Rocky Rivera aka Eye A Sage aka The Girl That Got Away aka You Wish Your Girl Was As Filthy As Her, drops her album early next year. If any of you Seattle heads caught her killin it at Neumos a few weeks ago, then you know this is gonna be some filth.
It’s gonna be weird not seeing you at all the shows and events, talkin shit, crackin jokes…I will always remember your good humor, knowledge, your honesty and support of what i do, and especially your passion and love for the culture that we embrace and live. You defended and kept the torch burning for Hip Hop, as a true head who represented it to the fullest. Blessings to Cassandra and the fam, and peace to 206 Zulu.
With all the support and buzz for Seattle’s own Massive Monkees (Beacon Hill up!), and the popularity of MTV’s show America’s Best Dance Crew, i thought i would share some of the filthiest choreographers that i have ever seen. My homie Jon Reyes (of Neighborhood Watch/Delorean/12ft Dwende), hipped me to these dancers a while back, i was hooked.
Mari Martin (this is one of my favorite routines ever.):
WhoOOooOOooo…what a weekend. I spent 5 days in The Bay for the APIA Poetry Summit. I gotta say, it was an amazing experience that words cant even describe. Dope-ill-filthy-McNasty-API Poets represented their melanin from all over the world. I felt like i met a new family.
Meeting Bao Phi for the first time was truely a blessing, and then to see him perform at the showcase, brought tears to my eyes, reassuring my identity as a young Vietnamese man in America, and my purpose in writing. Also, building with my guy Dandiggity, was worth the trip alone. Meeting so many beautiful young golden children with deep souls and endless talent and passion, gave me hope for the next generation. It was my first time ever in The Bay Area, seriously. It felt like a second home, i didnt wanna leave. Hey, i even got to DJ for a minute, hahaha. Drinking horchatas for the first time, kickin it on the Berkley Campus, walkin down Haight St., taking the dirty ass bus and loud ass bart everywhere…it couldnt get no better. Peace to Dan, Adriel, Kristen, Jason, Messej and everyone else that helped organize an incredible weekend! For a better recap of the Summit, peep the link. www.apiasummit.com. The next summit will be in the Twin Cities in 2011!
While at the Summit, i heard some talk of something about my guy DJ Phatrick (formerly of the Native Guns)…rapping. WHAT? Yes, there was word that Phatty was rapping Bambu’s verse during a performance he had with Kiwi. I needed proof…and well, shit…here it is.
LMAO! Apparently, Bambu wasnt too impressed nor happy about it…
So this past week in Seattle has been ridiculously stupid hot. Like 100 degrees or higher everyday, hot. Like, all the fan does is blow hot ass air, hot. Like, more than one Slurpee a day, hot. Like, i cant sleep cuz its still 90 degrees at midnight and im sticking to my bedsheets, hot. You get the idea. So in light of it all, my homies Khingz and Gabriel Teodros and I decide to drop some tracks dedicated to the beautiful yet uneasy Summer we’ve been having. The Living Yard was created a couple Summers ago on Beacon Hill. It was real hot at night, so we decide to just bring the couch from the living room, out into the front yard. Living room + front yard = The Livin’ Yard. So enjoy, and stay cool…literally. It’s fucking hot outside.
